Donuts for the troops back home

for a delightful zany look at the best of new york street-life with the apostle of fun kenny scharf. He doesn't make the donuts, he just delivers the joy of eating one.

let the eagle soar for no reason

This wall sculpture of the eagle from the u.s. coin is one of three made for polish artist Piotr Uklanski. It's a joy to carve american marble, aka styrofoam, using really sharp knives. Most countries have a national bird. Here it is the bald eagle but a better choice could be the great north american wild turkey. Anyways the Rubell Family Collection has one and the other two flew the coop across the big pond.

making stars for the stars

Fabricating sculpture for other artists is my job. Here are two stars. The wall piece is called 'inflorescence' for Bhakti Baxter and the other is part of 'the peace project' for R & R. It is my pleasure to help others shine.

25 castaways, 50 dry feet

an extra swampy tidal algae plume, photo not related.
25 Cuban rafters came ashore at Haulover Beach. It must have looked like freedom to them but with overhaul of Haulover, that spit of beach is quite an unwelcoming mess at the moment.

Save the ornament with the likeness of jorge perez.
Rebecca Wakefield’s brief history of The Related Group is a sharp reminder of the cautious words of Marjory Stoneman Douglas "I'd like to hear less talk about men and women and more talk about citizens.". Today we have more flabbergast cityscapes resulting from the audacity of the builders and their tools at towm hall. If it is not good or bad, it must be schmimo at Sunny Isles.

surfside santa banished

Ever wonder where santa goes after christmas, he can be found at the log cabin nursery on miami beach. For the past decade this giant fiberglass likeness welcomed all to surfside but for some reason the town currents decided to get rid of santa... if not the entire myth.

where our founding fathers met our soul brothers

For all things africana and more, my white brother in Harlem is Kurt Thometz the Jazzy Gent of Jumel Terrace Books and oasis for the unrestrained pursuit of knowledge.
Read the book Life Turns Man Up and Down

dig digby

Seriously, one of the best of the best political blogs. Where is a Howard Beal when we need him/her most?... at Hullabaloo

StreetArt

Keith Haring was my friend. Today he is a legend and a source of inspiration for many artist who never met him, were probably in diapers when keith was writing wildstyle in NY. He had a tremendous regard for the graffiti cultural dynamic. Imagine my delight to see this mural in Miami. Wonder who painted this and what's with the Hieronymus Bosch background.

Apre Basel

In our "winner takes all" culture, dissapointment was my close friend after the herald looked this over. Congrats to the chosen four. Regrets to the 800 others.
